News: Old news is still news, right?

I'm now back from Rome, which is a truely beautiful place btw, and feeling completely refreshed. I'm thinking the site could do with an update though- just a brief one- then we can move on.

  • Peter Moore has left Microsoft to take up his new role as the head of EA Sports. He will be replaced by Don Mattrick, himself having previously worked for EA
  • A demo for the Darkness can now be found on Xbox Live Marketplace- it's a massive 1.3 GB though
  • On Xbox Live Arcade you can now download both Bomberman Live (800 MSP) and Yie Ar Kung-Fu (400 MSP)
  • There will be no X07 event, instead the UK will get it's own show at a TBD date before Christmas
  • There may not be online co-op play for Halo 3 according to Bungie. The decision as to whether the game will support it is still yet to be made.
  • Retailers have priced the Xbox 360 Elite at £329.99

I strongly advise you to download The Darkness demo, as you know i've got the full game and it's really good in my opinion (apart from the three "interlude" type levels set in Hell, they suck absolute arse, but are mercifully quick). If you liked Chronicles of Riddick you should like this, it's actually even a bit like Oblivion in the way it's free roaming and lets you talk to random strangers, some of whom give you sub-missions. I think you'll like it :)

Yeah I downloaded the demo, played it, and actually- I didn't really think it was that great. It just didn't grab me as much as I thought it would for one reason or another.

Fair enough i guess.

Anyway, i watched the trailers for Halo 3, Mass Effect, Call of Duty 4, Stranglehold, PGR4 and Assassins Creed the other day. If i'm honest i was most impressed with Mass Effect, i think it looked REALLY good and it's definitely on my Xmas list. CoD4 also looked impressive with some great looking graphics which seemed like a definite step up from CoD3. I'm in two minds about Stranglehold, it looks stylish, but i wasn't THAT impressed with the graphics, but if it's anything like Max Payne it should be worth a look (dammit, i want a Max Payne 3!!! Remedy, hurry up and finish Alan Wake!). PGR4 looked decent, but not that much of a step up graphically from PGR3 imo. Assassins Creed looked predictably amazing, definitely picking that up. And Halo 3 looked like what i expected, not that stunning graphically, but it's Halo so i'm still totally getting it, it could look like a PS2 game and i'd still get it, lol.

One thing i've just heard about that has pleased me is that Splinter Cell: Conviction has been delayed until next year, i'm glad because this way i'll be able to actually get it instead of having to choose between that and all of the above games. They release way too many games in the run up to Christmas...

I'm off to watch the new MGS4 gameplay trailer now, this better be good! lol.
