News: Youtube part one

The latest system update for the Xbox 360 isn't far away; you can view a sneek peak of the forth coming update right here, coming sometime this Spring. As you can see from the video, your friends list will now be compatible with that of your Windows Live Messenger friends list- allowing you to chat to your messenger buddies on your PC through your Xbox 360 and vise verse. Other key new features include a new dashboard blade for the Xbox Live Marketplace, which also has improvements, and the ability to run downloads whilst the console is in low energy mode.

Linking with Live Messenger is good in some respects, but bad in others. For example, i don't want all of my MSN contacts interrupting me whenever i try to play a game because they don't realise that i'm actually on the 360 not the PC :/

This doesn't affect me personally because i've got a separate MSN account for my XBL (due to it wanting me to be over 18 at the time of signing up, i had to create a fake account, it was a matter of DAYS until my 18th which was slightly annoying, lol.)

Yeah I agree mate. I hope they don't take the whole Xbox 360 and PC connectivety thing TOO far, and what they do actually do works out. I am still in two minds over Xbox Live Anywhere. If you get the choice then fine, but I don't want to be forced to play against PC gamers. However, if it is forced on some games- they had better make sure it works.

With messenger I have a seperate account too, so I'm ok with that. It's a nice feature to have though. Like you though, I don't really use messenger that often anymore.

I never use MSN messenger anymore, i grew tired of signing in just to see who was online and then inadvertently getting dragged into about 20 conversations, when all i wanted to do was play Oblivion, lol.

Generally when i go on the PC, i go on it for a purpose (web browsing, shopping, doing my moderator duties on a forum, posting on a forum, etc...), the same goes for the 360, and at the risk of sounding anti-social, i don't want to get dragged into 100's of conversations, lol.

I really just use e-mail or the dreaded "MySpace" for chatting to people nowadays. I find it much easier.

Yeah I know what you mean. I only usually voice chat to a few of my Xbox Live friends- the rest I only engage in text chat because sometimes it's just easier.

I was thinking earlier, what XBL could really use is a form of Internet Explorer. I believe that both the PS3 and Wii have some form of web browser. IE would be highly useful on the 360, not least because my dad is sick of being unable to use the PC because i'm on the internet all the time, lol.

Yeah the PS3 has a basic web browser, and the Wii will have very soon.

Although not essential, a basic web browser for the Xbox 360 would be quite useful.
