Microsoft have today revealed that there are now over 6 million users worldwide using Xbox Live. Infact, Xbox Live has passed 6 million users, 4 months earlier than expected with Microsoft originally setting a target of June 2007 for reaching the milestone. Another interesting figure is that a total of 2.3 billion hours have been spent playing games on Xbox Live since it's launch back in 2002. Impressive.

Now if they just make XBL Gold free i'll be a happy camper!
The trial was fun and everything, but i just don't think i'd have the time to make paying for it worthwhile, even if it is only £40. Plus whenever your friends aren't online it kinda sucks. Gears of War online is a hell of a lot more fun when played with somebody you actually know in real life, playing with strangers just isn't the same imo.
Hopefully the rumours i've been hearing will be correct and MS will be forced to make it go free. If Live Anywhere on PC is free (which it has to be, PC gamers won't pay for online gaming, especially if it only allows them to play console gamers), then why would it be fair to charge 360 gamers? And then there's the little fact that PS3 online is free...
I won't be paying for XBL Gold i'm afraid. Maybe Halo 3 will change my mind nearer Christmas, but for now i'm purely an Offline gamer.
I highly doubt they would go free, when the service is so successful and the £40 price mark has served them so well in the past.
I can't see why you don't think Live is worth £40. It's a bargain to be honest. PS3 online might be free- but it is still highly inferior to Xbox Live. Xbox Live on a PC will only be for some games that come out on both, so it's different. Only some content/games will be shared- for games that get released on both.
And you're not an offline gamer. You still have Xbox Live Silver- and for free you really can't complain. You get nearly everything- apart from playing games online. :)
As more games get released you will see the need for Xbox Live. Like you say- games like Halo 3.
Infact- I am currently on a silver membership, as my gold subscription expired a few days ago. I do have a 1 month subscription card that I got with my vision camera, which I'll put on soon. I will get a new 12 months subscription soon though.
I just read on Evil Avatar that MS have just announced that all of the new "Games for Windows" branded games will require a subscription similar to XBL in order for you to play XBL gamers.......they have just violently shot themselves in the proverbial foot with this stupid move. PC gamers WILL NOT pay to play Xbox Live gamers, and that's a fact.
I don't see it as a problem. Pc gamers pay to play MMORPGS and such like- why can't they pay to play certain games on Xbox Live? Besides- I don't think many Xbox 360 gamers give a damn if PC gamers play against them via Live Anywhere or not. It's a service that is optional. If PC gamers would pay a subscription to World of Warcraft, then they can pay a subscription to play Shadowrun.
