Review: Xbox Live wireless headset

The wireless headset takes a little getting used to. At first I was having trouble with being comfortable with it just clipped onto my ear. However after a while- when you get used to it- it's superb and you forget that it's actually there. The wireless headset is primarily designed to clip onto your right ear, as opposed to having the sound through your left on the standard headset- although you can change over if you so wish.

Once you've managed to open the razor sharp plastic packaging, and then binded it to your console- you're ready to go. The headset features 4 buttons. The small one is for binding it to your console, the power button can be held down to switch the headset on or off, or tapped to mute/un-mute. Then at either side of the power button- there are volume up and volume down buttons. All the buttons are very smartly placed and easy to use.

I have used the headset both in-game and in private chat and sound quality is just as good, if not better, to that of the standard Xbox 360 headset- it sounds great. There is no interference- and sound is crystal clear.

Obviously the greatest feature here is that there are no wires. It's now much more comfortable without some stupid wire hanging over your controller- and without the fear that you'll yank the headset out at that 'shit that was close' type moment.

On full charge- the headset will maybe last you about 8-10 hours. Bizarrely enough however, the headset must be charged via the mains. Why it doesn't come with a USB charge cable instead is beyond me.

One thing that isn't so good- is that the distance the headset will work away from the console isn't so great- so don't get any ideas about going for a wizz in between a lengthy Gears of War session whilst still talking to your buddies.

All in all, the wireless headset performs just like the regular headset- accept with the advantage of having no wires. For £35- it's definitely worth it- although not essential as it doesn't out perform the regular headset. If you hate wires and want to have a more next generation feel to your Live communications- then it's a must have.

Score: 4.5 (out of 5.)
