News: Playstation 3- yours for only £675

Just when you thought that Playstation 3 couldn't possibly get anymore expenisive- well, it just did. The major highstreet retailer HMV are offering you the chance to pre-order a Playstation 3 as of today on their online store. However, in order to secure a pre-order for one of the 5,000 consoles allocated to hmv.co.uk you must also first purchase a 4GB PSP console with the 2 bundled games. This in total brings the price up to an absolutely ridiculous £675. For anyone who either already has a Playstation Portable, or doesn't actually want one- this is beyond taking the piss.

Unfortunately- Sony also choose HMV as the official launch partner for the PS3 in the UK- and if estimations are to be believed- HMV could be allocated as much as 60% of the total PS3's being made available for launch. Oh Sony, how Microsoft will love you right now.

Here's the email- sent out to anyone who registered an interest in the PS3 on hmv.co.uk:

Want to be one of the lucky few to own a PlayStation 3 when it's launched? At HMV.co.uk, we've been working with Sony to offer up to 5,000 customers an incredible deal when you buy the new Sony 4GB PSP. Anyone who takes advantage of this offer will get priority over other HMV.co.uk customers for the PlayStation 3 AND two great free games for the PSP - Killzone Liberation and Gangs of London.

Your PSP console and games will be dispatched from our warehouse as soon as we receive your order. We will ship your PlayStation 3 to you from our warehouse as soon as we receive consoles from Sony in accordance with our terms.

PLEASE NOTE you will only be charged for the PlayStation 3 up to FIVE DAYS BEFORE dispatch of your console to you.

Please note that PlayStation 3 solus console is currently unavailable to order from HMV.co.uk by itself, and we kindly ask customers not to contact us with regards to this.

We'll see how long this deal lasts when only 2 people actually buy it...

I like Sony, and i want the PS3 to succeed, but when they pull stunts like this (making this idiotic partnership with HMV), it's pretty hard to defend them against scathing comments on 360 fanboy forums like Evil Avatar.

Well I'm a gamer- so I want all consoles to succeed. It's the games that are the important bit- I'm more a fan of specific games, rather than consoles themselves. Sure- I'm more of an Xbox guy these days- but that's down to certain games such as Halo and services such as Xbox Live. I'm also eventually getting a PS3.
