First Impressions: Lost Planet: Extreme ConditionWith Capcom's Lost Planet out today, I went to pick up the special edition version (which came with a free Lost Planet faceplate too) and I've been playing the singleplayer for a few hours now- here are a few first impressions.
+ Graphically stunning- one of the best looking Xbox 360 titles
+ Great animations- Akrid almost look real
+ Akrid are well designed- better than fighting the snow pirates too
+ VS mechs can be fun to use- though they are quite cumbersome
- Slow and cumbersome- can lead to mighty frustration
- Somewhat repetitive- there were times I honestly got bored too
- Fairly poor A.I- basic at best

Earlier today i finally put in a bit of time with the demo that i got a few weeks ago with OXM, while it is graphically impressive, i can't say that i'm that impressed with it really, it seems repetitive and like you said: "slow and cumbersome". I think the next time i buy a game i'll get R6: Vegas instead, i enjoyed the demo of that a hell of a lot more than the Lost Planet one.
Btw, i finished Splinter Cell the other day, brilliant game, i loved how you had to choose between killing Lambert or one of the terrorists near the end, i was a good boy and killed the terrorist :) Personally i think that Double Agent is the best one in the series, it's the only one that really "gripped me" in terms of storyline, with all of the other 3 i found myself getting bored with them towards the end due to the less engaging story.
Ey up mate! Yeah I need to spend more time with Lost Planet in order to put it in either a more positive or more negative catagory.
As for R6: Vegas- I'm currently borrowing the game of Oli- and whilst I did enjoy the demo (like you) the full game is lacking something for me. Maybe I'll get more into it, we'll see. I just think that (although R6 is fighting terrorists and in 1st person) it feels similar to GOW- which is a much better game (probably obviously.) It's the cover systems I think- similar in both games. It's the MP that concerned me most from the demo's though tbh- and I can't check that at the moment because I'm off Live for a few weeks until I get my connection sorted out. I'll test it at a friend's though.
I think you just give Dead Rising a go personally- plus you can get it for maybe £25 new on (gameplay.com or play.com I think.)
When are you getting connected to Live btw?
Oh and in reply to you SC comments- I'm glad you liked it. While I did like the singleplayer, I still rate it as worst in the series. I would say it's in this order: (best to worst)
1) Spinter Cell: Chaos Theory
2) Spinter Cell
3) Splinter Cell: Pandora Tomorrow
4) Splinter Cell: Double Agent
I've finished all the games too, so I know what's going on in all the games. Double Agent was quite different from the other games too. Not too much 'sneaking in shadows' this time- and they simplified a few things here and there, such as lighting, you're either in the light or in the dark- no middle ground.
I hope with the next SC being exclusive- it will be the best in the series yet, both SP and MP (because the MP needs work.)
Yeah, when the screen said "To Be Continued" right at the end, i could just hear the collective cry of PS2/Wii/GameCube/PS3 owners who realised that they wouldn't be able to play the next one without a 360, lol!
In my opinion i'd say that it goes like this:
1) SC: DA (mainly because it's different)
2) SC1 (I can still remember taking that final shot at Nikoladze right at the end, that's a sign of a good game when you can still remember something like that even 4/5 years later)
3)SC: CT (it was good, but i got a bit bored with it towards the end)
4)SC: PT (It wasn't bad, but it just felt too "samey" when compared to the original).
I know what you mean about R6 too by the way, it seems that recently there's been a sudden uptake of the Unreal Engine 3.0, and i've lost count of the times i've seen a preview of a game that looks identical to either R6 or GoW. An example that i can think of is a new game called "Parrabellum", apparently it's the 360's answer to Counter Strike, but it looks practically identical to R6. I just hope that someone takes UE 3.0 and 'tweaks' it or something or we'll just end up with a load of GoW clones.
And that's a damn shame about you being off Live mate, i was looking forward to giving you the receiving end of my Lancer Chainsaw next weekend! lol. My last exam is on Friday afternoon, but i'm off to see "Rocky Balboa" at the cinemas with my Dad that night so it'll probably be Saturday or Sunday before i get set up on Live. Have you figured out what's up with your Live then?
Yes. It's my LAN thats the problem. It's something on my PC that is the issue. Maybe my network card has gone. Either way- I have contacted Pipex about migrating to another provider, and they will email me within 3 weeks with a migration code- which I will then use to order BT broadband- which will give me wireless internet and a router, So I won't need to hook my 360 up via my PC anymore.
Ah cool, i've got BT Broadband myself, never had a problem with it, the best thing about it is that it's completely free because of my Dad's job! if only his bosses knew that it's practically only me that uses it, lol.
