Xbox Live Arcade Wednesday:
The next game in the Xbox Live Wednesday line up has been announced as Totem Ball, due out later this morning (about 8.30 GMT.) The game is designed specifically with the camera in mind (out this Friday in the UK, priced £34.99 for the standard pack or £59.99 for the Xbox Live bundle.) In fact, apparently you NEED the camera in order to play this game. It's also FREE! Sounds good, now I just need the camera. Expect reviews of both the camera and Totem Ball very soon. I think the camera will enjoy a lot of success, however I don't think it will be for everyone as not everyone will want for people to see them when playing a game.
I'm not buying one, i rarely used the microphone on my PC during my lenghty CSS sessions last year, so i don't really want people being able to see me while i'm playing games...i mean, do you really want to see me scratch my balls...no Chris, don't answer that question, lol. Joking m8 :P
I think the camera is a great thing. Reasons I will be buying are:
1) Video chatting with a few select friends
2)Take pictures and take your own gamerpic
3)Rainbow Six: Vegas face mapping
4)Allows innovative new titles such as Totem Ball
5)Opens up new possibilities for other games (like face mapping.)
Maybe so, but Face Mapping isn't new, you could do that on Tony Hawks Underground/Wasteland on the PS2, all you needed was an Eye Toy/Digital Camera and an internet connection, the faces were actually pretty accurate when mapped to the in game character too. It's hilarious when you get someones face wrong or its a dodgy picture, lol.
Face mapping may not be new, but it doesn't need to be, and it certainly is kool. What I'm saying is that you don't necessarily need to video chat with people or let people see a live steam of you if you don't want to, there are other features that make the camera worth having.
Besides, for £60 you can get:
Xbox Vision Camera
Xbox Live headset
12 Months Subscription to Xbox Live
Free copy of Uno on Live Arcade
Free copy of Totem Ball on Live Arcade.
If you were just planning on buying Live and a headset, seperately that would cost you £55- so you may as well get the camera pack as it is much better value. You pratically get the camera and 2 games free.
One slight problem. I've already coughed up for Uno, XBL gold and I have a headset already from my premium bundle. Totem Ball is free anyway, so the package as a whole doesn't appeal to me.
If you already have all that, and you don't want the camera that is a fair point. However for someone like Chris (who doesn't have Live, a headset, or Uno) the camera bundle would probably be the better option. I myself already have Live, a headset, and Uno- but may still opt for the £60 bundle as it will save me money on a new 12 months Live subscription in the long run, and I can always sell/trade in the headset.
In certain cases the £60 offer is a great deal (even for some people that aren't 100% mad keen on the camera itself, as you do get the 12 months for example.) Either way, I expect to have a review of the camera up tomorrow. :)
Chris, i bought the Premium pack, i've already got a headset :P
Oh right, I wasn't sure if you got the premium or not. :)
