News: Xbox 360 sales

Microsoft had something to cheer about today as they announced that they have now sold over 6 million consoles worldwide. That's impressive for sure and they are well on track to reach their target of an installed base of 10 million consoles by the end of 2006. They will of course see tough opposition next month with the release of Sony's Playstation 3 and Nintendo's Wii, although the PS3 is absent from Europe until March next year.
Also announced was that the Xbox 360 currently holds a record attachment rate for software and peripherals, which beats that set by the original Xbox. They also re-affimed that Xbox Live now has a user base of over 4 million users, so that two thirds of sold Xbox 360's are now online.

Lol. Yes I'm getting round to it tomorrow. It seems there were initial failure problems with some early Xbox 360 consoles, but I believe that the newer ones are more reliable and that the problems were very isolated.
I know you're looking forward to getting your 360 back and playing Viva Pinata! :)

They've made 6 million since release, i think its a bit overly optimistic of them to expect another 4 million in the space of 2 months.

No they have sold 6 million, not shipped. The actual figure is around 6.6 million sold. Optimistic, yes- but why can't they be? Look at the situation of the Xbox 360 compared to PS3's atm...you can't blame them. The power of the 360 is now starting to be realised and is gaining real momentum, and with the PS3 still to launch with none of the titles exactly doing much to justify the asking price. Microsoft are wrapping up good strong exclusives and they can do this because they lower the development costs of games to persuade them to go exclusive, something Sony don't do.
What I'm saying is that this Christmas is Microsoft's to lose, especially in europe. After Gears of War, there are many exclusive and huge games coming to 360 next year. At the moment the only AAA title announced for PS3 exclusivity is Metal Gear Solid 4. At this time, the announced games for 360 is far greater than that of the PS3.
I haven't mentioned the Wii because it's not going directly in competition with the 360. I'm sure the PS3 will be an amazing console, I will most probably pick one up- but you certainly shouldn't bet against MS reaching around the 10 million mark soon.
